Location and how to get there
The Costa del Sol (or "Coast of the Sun") is a fantastic palm tree lined coast situated in the South of Spain between coastal regions of the Costa de la Luz and the Costa Tropical. Formerly made up only of a series of small fishing settlements, today the region is a well known and loved tourist destination of the world.
The area's warm, mild climate is one of the top attractions with visitors and residents alike enjoying the beaches, as well as alfresco dining plus a wide variety of outdoor activities, all year round.
The Costa del Sol includes the city of Málaga and also the towns, to the East, of Rincón de la Victoria, Vélez-Málaga, Nerja, Frigliana and Torrox. To the West are the well-known resorts of Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Mijas, Marbella, San Pedro de Alcántara, Estepona, Manilva and Casares. To the far South is Gibraltar.
Travelling to and around the Costa del Sol is an exciting experience - and it’s easy. A UK to Málaga International airport flight takes just around 2 - 3 hours from the UK. The modern Málaga airport has excellent facilities and daily International arrivals and departures from all around Europe and the world. Taxis and car rental are easy to arrange beforehand, or on the day, for the duration of your holiday or stay either via their company internet sites or at the many car hire offices in and around the airport terminal.
Apart from air travel there’s an excellent road and rail (RENFE) network linking Europe and beyond with Málaga. If you prefer a short sea crossing there are ferries from Portsmouth and Poole in UK to France for a trip to Spain via sea then road or rail. A longer sea crossing is available to Santander in Northern Spain, making the journey more of a mini holiday.
Arriving by holiday cruise ship? The chic port of Málaga, one of the oldest ports in the world, with its modern Muelle Uno (Quay One) shopping centre, bars and restaurants is one of the most important cruise ship terminals in Spain, bringing thousands of passengers onto Málaga’s shores every year.
